Madrid, 26 June 2018.- The Química Sintética plant operated by Insud Pharma group company Chemo has received accolades in the categories of job creation, environmental protection and investment in the 2nd edition of the RSE Awards for the Chemical Sector.

The RSE Awards were held for the second time this year thanks to the support of the Business Federation of the Spanish Chemical Industry (Feique), in cooperation with the Spanish Forum for Chemistry and Society (FQS).

The multidisciplinary panel, comprising representatives of the public administrations, trade union organisations, Forética, the Spanish Forum for Chemistry and Society (FQS), Responsible Care, the Spanish Technology Platform for Sustainable Chemistry (SusChem Spain) and the academic and media landscapes, announced its decision on 31 May.

The RSE Awards seek to recognise companies from the chemical industry which form part of the Responsible Care programme for their commitment to Corporate Social Responsibility and Sustainable Development, and to position the chemical sector as a leader in the management and promotion of CSR in Spanish industry as a whole. This year, the Awards were also aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals outlined by the UN in its 2030 Agenda, to underscore the commitment of chemical sector companies to achieving those goals and the vitally important role they play.

The chemical sector: an ambassador for Social Corporate Responsibility through the Responsible Care programme

The Responsible Care programme, which was launched 25 years ago in Spain, is an international, voluntary initiative by the chemical industry at the global level which represents the sector’s united response to the challenges and intrinsic values of sustainable development and CSR. The programme strives for continuous improvement in Environmental, Health and Safety and Security measures across all chemical industry operations, promoting best practices with a view to complying with – and indeed exceeding – the demands and expectations of all stakeholders.

The Responsible Care signatory companies worldwide – the initiative is now practiced in 62 countries – account for 70% of the world’s chemical production. This pioneering programme, which has been coordinated in Spain by Feique for the past 25 years, has allowed signatory companies to generate substantial improvements in their performances, and now underpins all CSR initiatives in the chemical sector.

Responsible Care offers a united stance on responsible chemical production activity and reflects the engagement of the industry as a whole with social welfare and sustainability, providing a comprehensive, in-depth approach to all areas of Corporate Social Responsibility and Sustainable Development.
